On May 21 and 22, the 1st UPV Inter-School eSports Tournament was held at the Student House, organized by the Sports Department in collaboration with the Chair of Innovation in eSports and Active Gaming. The competition brought together students from all UPV schools —along with a team representing staff and faculty— to compete in games such as FC24, NBA2K, Formula 1, Just Dance, Overcooked, and Rainbow Six.

The first day, dedicated to scouting, served to rank participants by game and school. The second day featured the final matchups between the selected teams. This fully in-person event ended with the award ceremony, recognizing both the champions and runners-up of each game, as well as the school with the highest overall score. The tournament fostered participation and team spirit across the Universitat Politècnica de València community.

On May 19 and 20, as part of European HIV Testing Week, members of AVACOS-H (Valencian Association for HIV, AIDS and Hepatitis) set up an information stand on the ground floor of the UPV Student House. This activity, part of the UPVsaludable program, provided details on rapid HIV testing and distributed protection materials and informational brochures to the university community.

On May 19th, the hybrid course AI: Your Ally at the Job Fair was held at the UPV Student Recreation Centre, aimed at students, alumni, and staff of the Universitat Politècnica de València. Led by AI expert and UPV alumna Lidia Contreras Ochando, the training focused on using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to enhance CVs, prepare for job interviews, and create professional visual content. The in-person session was followed by five hours of asynchronous online practice via PoliformaT.

This initiative was part of the lead-up to #foroeupv, which also included Connect in One Minute (May 23) and support workshops like Interview Lab, CV Review, and Digital Footprint, held at the Ágora on May 20, 21, and 22. All activities aimed to boost the employability of the UPV community.

On Thursday, May 8th, the Student Recreation Centre hosted the event Bevem Estellés, organized by the Language Promotion and Normalization Service and led by writer and visual artist Anna Moner.

With the collaboration of Feets. Project Management, the event offered a participatory and innovative experience at the UPV, blending language, poetry, and the senses in tribute to poet Vicent Andrés Estellés on the centenary of his birth.

The session included a visual overview of Estellés’ biography, collective readings of his most iconic poems, and musical adaptations of his work. All of this was accompanied by Valencian wines, creating a multisensory celebration of literature and memory.

The sala de graus I filled with voices, aromas, and emotions in a moving event that brought Estellés’ poetry to the university community in an intimate and engaging way.

Last Thursday, May 8th, a new edition of the Torrecid Hackathon took place in the Ximo Mora room at the Student Recreation Centre, organized by the LideraT UPV group with sponsorship from the multinational company Torrecid.

This time, the challenge proposed to participants was to leverage Torrecid’s technical knowledge (know-how) and extensive experience in the ceramic sector to identify new viable business opportunities in which the company could get involved.

The teams worked intensely on developing innovative ideas, combining creativity and strategic analysis to explore potential futures for the company.

The event was a great success and once again saw high participation, fostering collaboration, hands-on learning, and an entrepreneurial spirit among attendees.

The Casa del Alumno hosts the Mercadona IT Hackathon today, April 14, an intensive day where teams of students from the Universitat Politècnica de València face real technological challenges proposed by professionals from Mercadona IT.

The event, organized under the framework of the Mercadona IT – UPV Chair, aims to bring students closer to the reality of working in high-level technological environments, fostering teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving in real contexts.

For 12 uninterrupted hours, the selected teams work side by side with industry professionals at the Sala Ximo Mora of the Casa del Alumno, competing for prizes such as iPads for the winning team, a curved Dell screen raffled among the participants, and other giveaways.

The Hackathon is part of the activities promoted by the new Mercadona IT Chair, created in collaboration between Mercadona and the UPV to promote the training of technological talent and the connection between the academic and business worlds.

Today, April 10th, marked the beginning of the PowerCo x UPV Hackathon at the UPV Student Hub.
Over three days, participants will tackle real-world challenges related to the future of sustainable batteries, such as second life for materials and failure monitoring.
The hackathon continues on April 11th and 17th at PowerCo’s offices and the Sagunto Gigafactory.

Today, April 10th, the UPV Student Hub hosted the first day of the 3rd Jeanologia MISSION ZERO Hackathon.
This event raises awareness of global water scarcity and encourages innovative ideas to reduce water consumption in the textile industry.
Organized with Jeanologia, a Valencian leader in sustainable technology, the hackathon offers prizes of up to €3,000 and a guided visit to their facilities.
The second session will take place on April 16th at the company’s headquarters.
